Humility, Truth, & Tough Love
Humility, Truth, & Tough Love
Humility and Truth: Video Overview
In this short discussion about humility and honesty, Amandha Vollmer (ADV) reflects on the guidance she received from a Tibetan teacher. He encouraged her to remain humble regardless of her knowledge or abilities and to find satisfaction in herself without seeking recognition from others. Amandha connects this lesson to her spiritual understanding of contentment, explaining how humility can support a loving and giving approach to life.
Amandha then explains how humility can coexist with tough love. Speaking truthfully does not always mean saying what someone wants to hear. In her view, honest communication sometimes challenges a person’s established thinking, even when the response is uncomfortable. She distinguishes between speaking with care and taking responsibility for another person’s reaction. Through her experiences with different teachers, she has learned how to remain grounded in her integrity without allowing criticism or judgment to define her.
The discussion concludes with the practices Amandha uses to process emotional reactions. She mentions Vipassana meditation and describes forgiveness statements, body tapping, and gratitude in connection with her understanding of Ho’oponopono. Rather than holding on to criticism or difficult feelings, Amandha explains how these practices help her release emotional tension and return to a more peaceful state.

Humility and Contentment
ADV: I have a Tibetan teacher. He taught me humility. You know, just because you’re smart or have skills, be humble.
ADV: Like, you don’t need to show off. You don’t need to have all the attention. You don’t need that. You have God’s attention, and that’s it. That’s enough.
ADV: And to feel satisfied with where you’re at, no matter what it looks like on the outside, and to be a loving, giving person.
Honesty, Integrity, and Tough Love
ADV: But through all of it, it’s taught me how to have tough love, like how to say it like it is and be in integrity, and say it honestly, and be honest with what you’re feeling or how you’re trying to express something to somebody. And if it’s real and true, then it will resonate with them. Now, they might not appreciate it in the moment all the time, but that’s not your responsibility.
ADV: Your responsibility is to the truth and not necessarily their feelings, per se. I mean, you’re gonna try to be gentle where it’s warranted. Sometimes the gentle approach doesn’t work because it doesn’t shake ’em enough. It doesn’t rattle ’em enough. It doesn’t unearth them from their comfort zone enough for them to go, ‘No,’ or get angry, or do something that shakes up what they think they know, right?
Meditation and Reactions to Judgment
ADV: And so a lot of these teachers, and doing Vipassana meditation and these sorts of things, helped hone that in me, where I’m okay if people don’t like me or judge me or whatever.
ADV: It’s not to say it doesn’t bother me from time to time. I’m still a woman. But I don’t take it into my personality, or I don’t take it into my ego. It doesn’t stay, right? It’s just something you transmute.
Ho’oponopono, Tapping, and Gratitude
ADV: I really like the Ho’oponopono approach. Like, you know, ‘I’m sorry,’ like doing the tapping. ‘I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I love you.’ You know, ‘I forgive you.’ Like this sort of process where you’re going over it and you’re tapping your body and you’re releasing anything you might have picked up that you’re holding inside of you. That’s kind of microtraumas, really. And just release, release.
ADV: ‘I’m sorry. I forgive you. I love you. Thank you.’ Putting yourself into gratitude states, right? And these types of methods.
