The Power of DMSO for Healing with Amandha Vollmer and Adam Parker of The Ideal Day Podcast
DMSO Uses and Benefits: Video Overview
In this Ideal Day Podcast conversation about DMSO uses and benefits, Amandha Vollmer (ADV) joins host Adam Parker to begin with the question many people have when they first encounter dimethyl sulfoxide: what is it, where does it come from, and why can the same substance be discussed in relation to so many different applications? ADV shares the experience that first pushed her to investigate DMSO, then explains its relationship with trees, organosulfur chemistry, MSM and its use as a solvent and transdermal carrier.
From there, the discussion moves into how ADV thinks about pain, inflammation, circulation, tissue response and nutrient delivery, followed by practical considerations around concentration, clean skin, DMSO combinations and contact with other substances. Adam also asks about internal use, eye and dental applications, medications, alcohol, children, pregnancy and pets. Several of these applications are higher-risk or not approved indications, so the therapeutic claims remain ADV’s statements and experiences from the podcast rather than established medical guidance.
The conversation closes by returning to a wider principle behind ADV’s work: learning to notice how your body responds and understanding the conditions around a remedy rather than treating it as an isolated quick fix. Her final advice brings that same attention into daily self-reflection, what you consume and regular contact with the natural world.

The different applications you can use this for is just fantastic. And as you’ll explain the history, it’s used in modern medicine also, but this is something that we can have at home and use regularly to help us get through any aches, pains, ailments that we might be experiencing.
So without further ado, this was my chats with Amandha Vollmer.
Discovering DMSO and Writing Healing with DMSO
Amandha Vollmer, welcome to the show.
Hi, Adam, thanks for having me,
Amandha. It’s great to have you on today’s show, and I’m really, Excited that we’re gonna be talking about DMSO. This is something that I only recently discovered, I’d say like a year ago, and it’s been transformational.
can be used for so many different things. And I need to get this information out to my listeners because it’s just not spoken of or talked about. And obviously you are the foremost expert in DMSO. You’ve got this great book, healing with DMSO.
So I’m curious what got you into the world of studying DMSO and writing the book.
Well, purely by happy accident. Where I had a customer come into my store with mites infested in his forearms from gardening, and he was frustrated with the scratching and keeping him up at night. I had suggested, you know, Diatomaceous Earth and some other things that help. Clear up mites, which did help his case.
But incidentally, I picked up the mites from him because he kept touching me constantly. It was as if the mites knew their day was done, and if they could just get this guy to keep touching me, they could continue on in life, but in my case, it was something I was gonna get on top of right away. And I did use the Diatomaceous Earth and other things, but it was still kind of sticking around, so, I had bought this small bottle of Dimethyl Sulfoxide, DMSO when I’d been in a health food store.
It was a 90% dilution, which is by law, all that’s really allowed to be sold for human use in Canada.
And I didn’t really know what to do about it or use it for I wasn’t in pain. I thought it was just for a pain killer. That’s all I learned in naturopathic college about the substance.
I had it sitting on my shelf.
I thought I should have some just in case someone came, come into the store and need, would need it. So I thought just to be a completist. So it sat there for quite a few months until this mite episode, and I thought, I’m gonna try this because I’m gonna experiment and see if this is gonna do anything for me.
Well, I put DMSO on without further dilution on my forearms quite liberally and usually I do test patches, but in this case I decide not to well. I had quite the response on my skin. It was red, it was almost a little bit swollen looking. Maybe I couldn’t tell, but what I did realize is how powerful that substance was.
I, I couldn’t get over it. I’m like, what is this stuff? What’s happened here? And what is this taste in my mouth when I didn’t drink the substance? I just put it on my skin and I can taste it in my mouth. What the heck is going on? and that plumbed me into research. And when I began going down the DMSO rabbit hole, I was alarmed at the lack of awareness of the substance.
Matched with the sheer amount of research that’s been done on it. I knew right away it is a suppressed substance and also one that you’ll find confusing information on, and you could tell it was in competition with the pharmaceutical model of medicine as well, even though. They use it in laboratories.
They use it in organ transplant medicine. They use it in preservation of tissues and as a pure solvent, they use it in all sorts of lab experiments. So you can find endless amounts of research on this substance. Yeah, so then I went to Stanley Jacob website and I read the research there and it just, I couldn’t stop, so I just kept.
Learning until I felt saturated. Then I did a YouTube video that went viral. It was my first one ever. I was really happy cause I was really excited that people should learn about this and know about it and have it in their first aid kit and know the power of this substance. And it’s quite a substance. I discovered it a year ago.
Was curious and now I pretty much use it. Every single day. And I’m, I think, why does Noble know about this? And you talk to people about it, like DMS, what, you know, because it’s not promoted, it’s not talked about. Obviously there’s no money to be made on it.
So it’s great to have you on the show to talk about it.
What DMSO Is: Origins, Sulfur, MSM, and Nutritional Context
So let’s take a step back and let’s get some definitions in place. What is DMSO in its simplest form? Well, it is dimethyl sulfoxide. So DMSO is just the acronym. And it is a liquid substance that is natural extract from trees, mainly pine trees. There is a synthetic lab derived and very expensive version called RIMSO-50, and it is an organo sulfur compound.
It was first synthesized actually by a Russian chemist Alexander Zaytsev in 1866. And it kind of sat around until about the 1950s when Robert Herschler from Crown Zellerbach, he started to experiment with it and look at it, and he realized its potential at that point and told Stanley Jacob, an MD about the substance who was looking for an organ transplant stable solvent.
And after that, Jacob was the one to really spearhead extensive studies into the substance. So it has a sulfur central unit with two methyl groups on the sides and an oxygen moiety as very simple molecule. And we tend to be very sulfur deficient. and we have four main amino acids that contain sulfur in our bodies.
Two are essential and two are non-essential. You can think of sulfur cross linkages as the particles that help your tissues hold hands, so your, the cells of your tissues need to connect to each other. And sulfur is the bridge that helps make those connections.
And it’s also very vital in glutathione production for the liver to help sequester wastes out of the blood and the tissues, so it upregulates that master antioxidant. A cousin of DMSO, a lot of people might be more familiar with, which is methyl sulfonyl methane. That’s MSM.
That is in a crystalline or a powdered format that people will take, you know, as a supplement.
Maybe they’re working out or they’re trying to help their skin and hair and nails grow or heal their gut is commonly used MSM and that has two oxygen moieties on it. So they’re, you can derive MSM from DMSO and you’re saying it’s derived from plants.
So you say pine trees?
Yes, typically it’s coming from pine.
Most plants will have some level of DMSO in them. Algae tends to have a lot oceans are a source of DMSO just in the air from the normal metabolism of algae. So there it is considered natural and in other plant materials, but we actually get it from an offshoot of the pulp and paper industry as a waste product that we purify and use that way.
Oh, wow okay, what do plants use DMSO for?
It’s obviously it’s found in plants.
What function does it have within a plant itself?
Primarily, the DMSO is, I always call it the strength of trees because it is fundamental inside the lignin. Which is a specific type of fiber that we find in trees that of course needs to be removed to make the pulp into pulp.
So make the tree that is hard and rigid into soft pulp material. You must remove the lignin, which is the DMSO is the main structuring aspect of lignin. Oh, wow. Okay. So it’s derived from plants and obviously because it’s from nature, essentially, that’s why. We can take it and I’m guessing it works the same with animals as well.
Like we naturally are able to use that compound from a plant because as you said, it’s got sulfur in it and all of these different elements that we need within our bodies. So is sulfur you, you said there’s sulfur in DMSO, but we’re, A lot of us are sulfur deficient nowadays. Why is that, do you think?
Why is there a sulfur deficiency? Is it general across individuals, or do some people have deficiencies and some do not?
Yeah. It’s interesting to see nutritional deficiency trends. So you’re always gonna have individual cases that would be on, you know, if you had a bell curve, you’re gonna have people on both sides of that.
But the majority in that bell curve tend to be deficient in common things. And I noticed over my 10, 11 years in practice repeated deficiencies, one being sulfur; another, being iodine, another being vitamin D. Another being boron actually., sort of surprised me at the beginning. Magnesium being another.
So we’re, we have a lot of this lifestyle factors depleting us in key nutrients that are causing problems with our cleansing systems in our body. And our metabolism and our hormone communication. If you can imagine how many xenoestrogens are in our food, water, and air and products, how much EMF we’re being exposed to and all sorts of other chemicals, our body has to constantly clean up this material and it has to shuttle, it has to communicate, and when it cannot, then we see more chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease, and so forth, building up.
And the sulfur is really key and a lot of these major elements that we need in our body, they do multiple functions. So once you apply the, what you suspect as a deficiency by seeing in the body while you take the case you’ll see in the history, if you start to apply that you get corrections.
So you know that it’s been lowered.
And so I’ve done this over and over again and sulfur tends to be one that it’s very rare to see someone who’s saturated properly with this element.
Yeah. Yeah.
And it’s so interesting seeing how easy it is to have nutritional deficiencies nowadays. Just because the foods that we consume doesn’t have the level of nutrition that it once had.
And then on top of that, it’s the amount of toxicity we now have is a 100 times to what it was., you know, even a hundred years ago, it’s such a new dynamic, how our bodies have to basically adjust to this new environment, right? We were having less nutritious foods, more toxicity in the environment. So you could say, you could run deficient on certain vitamins or minerals just because you require more, like you think about magnesium.
people are stressed more than ever, and EMFs and all these different things going on you might think you’d be depleted quicker of certain key compounds in the body just cause of the lifestyle we’re now living. Yeah, there’s that and also you touched on it a little bit there with stress. Because when you’re in sort of fight or flight mode or in a high cortisol state, your digestive capabilities downgrade. And when you don’t have digestion, Then you don’t have the absorption of those materials as well. So on top of all what you said, we also have digestive issues that are quite troublesome, and also from chronic inflammation.
You can have things like leaky gut. We can have states where we’re in chronic fatigue. From adrenal insufficiency and so when all of those start going haywire, how are you getting absorption, assimilation, delivery to the end tissue, and then correction? When you actually finally deliver the materials to the tissue, is it able to perform and then remove the materials that it’s finished with?
Much like I use the analogy of a construction site, you have to get the workers there, you have to get materials there. You have to remove the old, you know, structures before you can build it again. Quite a communication network that has to take place. And so we’re adding insult to injury in layers and we need to be very aware of that.
I think for me, I’ve had such a big shift into focusing on proactive detox, but also just detox in general because I realized that you can have the best diet, the cleanest diet you could ever imagine, organic grass, feds, blah, blah, blah, but you’re right. If you can’t absorb the nutrients, it’s kind of a waste of time and I think a big part of that is, well, if you are toxic and you’re congested, you’re gonna find it harder to absorb that nutrition and get the benefits from it, right?
It’s just cause I think that the kind of mainstream way is right. I’m gonna change my life and I’m gonna go on a diet and exercise and sometimes., that’s not enough with our conditions that we now live in, it’s like, Now you’ve gotta a, you’ve got a clean house and continually clean house to make things work for you.
But again, it’s, there’s so many dependent things on it. It’s like, you know, genetics and how well you detox, and there’s so many different factors there, but it’s, I think it’s, for me, detox is so important now, and for me I’m proactively doing it all the time now because I live in a busy city and it’s polluter.
I live in London, so it’s something that I’m always proactively doing. Yeah. I say always be detoxing, you know? Practice your ABD’s. Yeah, because we’re under assault. I don’t think people realize the scope. Of what’s been going on, and those of us who know are very aware and are taking action as much as possible to not only try to stop the assault from coming in, but to upregulate our system so that we’re running as finely as we possibly can.
So when something does affect us, we’re gonna recover. Well.

DMSO Uses: Pain, Transdermal Delivery, Circulation, and Tissue Response
That’s it from me. Now, back to the show. So DMSO, people are still thinking, okay, cool. So what does it do? There are many benefits, but what are some of the top line benefits that you’ve seen people have when they regularly use DMSO? Well, the first and foremost and what I learned about was the pain relief that it’s a true nerve block in analgesia and you actually can substitute it for any of your non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents because it is a true NSAID, it’s more effective and safer than aspirin.
It has a diuretic action, so it will cleanse through the kidneys as well, and it is a muscle relaxant too and you don’t get one substance with so many, actions like this, I mean,, I call it one of my heavy hitters, right? Because yeah, you don’t wanna be taking so many things all the time. You wanna focus on something that’s gonna give you a huge bang for your buck.
It will penetrate the skin, so it has membrane transport abilities and completely transdermal, and this is why you have to know what you’re doing but you also understand that potential if it’s carrying nutrients, if it has an ability to do that, and then it is able to transdermally work, then you can get those nutrients right to a source spot.
You don’t have to use the digestive system to get your action.
That’s massive.
It does have a bacteriostatic action so it can help your body get in control of a situation where the tissue integrity might be faltering from inflammatory processes that are causing breakdown, where you have your own microbiome come to the area to try to, you know, clean it up.
but then it can create its own waste problems when you have too much, you know, activity, microbial activity. So you want to try to up-regulate as much as possible and DMSO, will help slow down some of that process where the bacteria doing the job and up-regulate secondary, tertiary mechanisms to clean up the tissue.
like for example, calling in more white blood cells to the area, opening up the tissue so that inflammatory molecules don’t need to be so plentiful because now the job is getting done in a easier manner. It has a lot of connective tissue activity as well, so it contains fibrous proteins and glycoproteins that are very specific to rebuild.
It increases blood flow, which is also really powerful and one of it’s claim to fame because if you have platelet aggregation or a vasodilation problem, then say a heart attack or a stroke where things are not, blood is not flowing to the area to the tissue properly, you can actually stop a heart attack or stroke by using DMSO immediately.
And even if you know you’re on your way to the hospital or you know, the emergency services are. You can begin this process right away, and it will help to have a better outcome and a speedier recovery, especially in stroke recovery. I mean, people who have used it post-stroke basically have like no negative sequelae.
Their paralysis clears up. They’re not wheelchair bound, and then you have cases where. People have not used the DMSO and they’re in a long term situation, so it can be very profound, but the earlier, the better when it comes to stroke and heart attack. It has a really interesting relationship with water as well, and we’re learning more and more about the powers of water too.
So it actually communicates with water. It uses water as a propeller so that it can get through the body very quickly, and it supports the cellular structures to be in proper integrity and then movement of materials, detoxification of metals, drug enhancement or reduction.
It has an effect on serum cholesterol.
It doesn’t end there. The functionality here increases oxygen delivery to the cells, helps to differentiate and have a functional change in leukemia cells or other malignant cells. So it helps, you know, in cancer cases it’s radio protective, so if you take it ahead of time before you go for any sort of procedure, like an x-ray, it’ll protect your cells from x-ray damage.
I could go on wow that’s so many things. I also heard, and I don’t know where I heard it from, they did an experiment where they broke the spines of rats or mice and then they would inject the DMSO into the area and it would the spine would heal within an allotted time. So I think within six hours of the break, that then injected DMSO and it would heal something crazy like that.
I dunno if you’ve heard that, that before, but I was just like, that’s insane. If that’s true. Yeah, that’s rapid tissue healing and recovery. I have people report to me that they’ve had an injury and once that they’ve applied the DMSO, it’s as if they never had the injury in the first place.
Primarily.
That’s because if you can get rapid blood flow to an area of injury, and you don’t need all of the chemical intermediaries such as like interleukins and other sorts of inflammatory molecules then you don’t get the same symptoms like swelling for example, or redness can be better controlled because you don’t need so much of a response.
The body, cause the DMSO is at the ground level, helping the show, you know, helping all the construction workers do their job more efficiently. Even the point where people have broken bones and or, you know, people say, oh, I always twist my ankles, you know, at least once a year I’ll twist my ankle and usually takes.
You know, three to four months to heal. Well, I used DMSO this time and I was back to normal form in less than a week. Wow. And when sports medicine is famous for DMSO knowledge, yeah. They use it a lot. And so it, they understand they need their players to be going back on the field as soon as possible.
And also they have issues with concussions. So if they just use DMSO right when they thought perhaps a concussion was forming, they could prevent the whole post-concussion syndrome from even forming. So it’s a really big deal. And that’s similar with what you were saying about heart attacks and strokes.
Emergency Use Discussion, Organ Preservation, Pregnancy, and Children
I’m curious because this might actually help someone out one day, let’s just say someone’s having heart attack. What would be the procedure for DMSO. So is it just to drink it? Would you rub it on the heart area? Do you know what someone would have to do? Yeah. The first step would be to familiarize yourself with DMSO first, so that you like ahead of time so that you know if you have any sensitivities.
But some people who have taken a lot of sulfur drugs or have a lot of alternative sulfurs. I know they’re in my book. There’s a chapter on the different types of sulfur versus sulfate versus sulfur. It can actually up-regulate the removal of those from the body which people react to. So sometimes people have to go very slow if they’ve had a history of sulfur drugs because it’ll stir that up to remove it and can agitate them in the meanwhile.
So it’s a temporary issue, but the procedure for application, which I wasn’t allowed to put in my book, the most important info the lawyer said I couldn’t put in the book. So that was for strokes and heart attack and it’s essentially you want to take about a 50% solution by mouth.
You can dilute it further.
It’s really disgusting to drink it. Unfortunately, it tastes like a bunch of rubber bands. It’s not pleasant and it gives you a nasty breath, but you’re having heart attacks, so yeah, you’re just gonna deal. So usually suggest some juice to mask it and just throw about a tablespoon in a tumbler, fill a couple more tablespoons juice and get it in.
Yeah, and then topically would be either 50% DMSO with magnesium, very liberally over the neck, the temples, the spine. I would also do it over the belly area where the aorta is, and then I would be applying it every 15 minutes while you’re on the way to, you know, the hospital or having emergency services come help.
Yeah. And then I would continue after the fact as well, using it, you know, every few hours. So you’re really trying to get a loading dose that’s quite high and you can put it neat or directly or in its pure form on the skin. Once or maybe twice you will get a little bit of thickening or leathery redness and that sort of thing.
But it’s temporary and it will always heal completely after. Yeah. So even if there’s hives, response it’ll heal. It’s nothing to be alarmed about. Yeah, I think it’s just good to get the information out there because I’m sure someone will listen and be like, it does what? It’s a shame you couldn’t put it in your book.
So it’s great that you can say it here and we can get information out to people. So you’re saying DMSO is used elsewhere, so it’s used within the kind of industrial medical complex you said for organ transplants. So how so? Literally how, I’m just trying to think what do they actually, because obviously they don’t promote it and it’s not promoted.
Really anywhere. So is it used just to literally move organ from body A to body B? How is it actually used? DMSO in that scenario, well, it has an interesting, like it’s a pure solvent, which means anything can be dissolved into it. Yeah. But it doesn’t alter the substance that is dissolved into it, which is very rare.
And when you’re trying to preserve tissues, you need to keep them cold, obviously. So they don’t. and you need to be able, if you put like safe, put water or even alcohol because of the freezing rate, you’re still gonna get cell breakage because the ice will expand and damage the cell tissue.
But DMSO has a different relationship, as I was saying earlier, with water.
So it creates a lower rate of freezing so you can. Put a mixture of DMSO water and soak the organ in it, and put it in the freezer and it won’t crystallize. The DMSO will prevent the water from crystallizing into ice. It’ll just keep the water very cold. So that is what, how we can, and then the great news is once the organs come out and are being prepared for transplant, most of the DMSO can be washed away.
But also there’s no other weird, you know, strange issues with the tissue from, its exposure there are some concerns with the dose of DMSO that’s still left in the tissue when it’s transported into like a child. So there’s been some concern in youth for organ transplants, they have to do a little bit extra washing because it does affect nervous system tissue in developing children a little bit more.
So that’s where we’re a little more cautious when we’re applying it to babies and children or when we’re nursing or pregnant.
It’s so fascinating, isn’t it? The amount of things DMSO does to tissue in the body. I mean, just telling me that water won’t freeze, that’s just again, mind blowing, that sort of information.
Testimonials, Skin, Injury, Eyes, Dental Use, and Handling
Do you have any, I’m sure you do, but any testimonials of people using DMSO that spring to mind? Like I’m guessing that certain health conditions that have been reversed because someone has used DMSO. To heal? Oh, yeah. I mean, at this point there’s probably thousands and really, you know, people will say things like, I had, like, I make blends as well.
Like, I started to use, learned about it. I thought you know, if it’s delivering deeper into the tissues, what about skincare? Why can’t I blend it with other because I, you know, if I make a skin cream or a skin lotion, how about I start blending and see what happens? So I started to tinker with that and I found quite a synergy of healing when I did this.
So like I have a lot of people they’ll come with say, eczema, which is really a liver problem, but they’re upset with the discomfort. And so I designed an eczema lotion that I enhanced afterward with DMSO and it helps the body to release the waste sitting under the skin that the liver unable to deal with, which is causing the rash.
So it pulls them out rather than suppresses it. Like most creams will do, like cortisone-based creams like your, you know, typical cortisone cream is a suppressant. It tells the skin, no, don’t do that. And then it goes into deeper organ. So this is the opposite. It pulls out and then the calendula heals the damaged skin and so does the DMSO, but it can go now deeper to pull out more waste in the deeper layers of tissues.
And so I had a lot of people tell me, you know, their eczema is healed or even in their child is healed. And I of course help them find a full, you know, root cause protocol. On top of that to heal the underlying digestive concerns, and then my own breaking my finger. That was to me amazing to see what happened.
Like I slammed my finger in my car door as I think it’s like a life. Rite of passage to do that,? I think so. I, it was my index finger on my dominant hand, and I slammed it real good, and then I pulled it out instead of opening the door. It was just a reaction, which was stupid because I pulled down my wrist and my elbow and my shoulder and everything at the same time.
I was in shock cause it also cut and there was blood and everything. And then I went inside, I took homeopathic aconite. Cause you always do that for shock so you can start thinking again. Cause when you’re in an emergency situation, it’s really hard to think. So I needed to get my brain back on. Once that happened, I took Arnica because I was bleeding.
Anything with bruises or contusions, you wanna take arnica. So I did those two homeopathics and then I said, you know what? I am going to take a paper towel, or I guess you call it kitchen towel over there. And I am going to soak pure DMSO on this thing and I’m gonna wrap it around my finger and I’m gonna go sit down and do some breathing and just like calm myself down.
Yeah, and that’s exactly what I did. I was in so much pain, I was just humming and doing everything I could to manage it. And then it was like a cloud lifted after about, I don’t know, between five and seven minutes. It just flew away from me. The pain just disappeared completely. I continued to wrap the finger, I put gauze on it and went about my day.
And by the next day, I knew I broke it. I know I broke it because I actually had a bump of marrow off the edge of the bone. So I knew I penetrated into the bone, and that finger was completely healed within five to six days. Wow. Which just, I can, yeah.
And straight and no weirdness and the bump took longer that marrow bump took longer to go.
But everything else normal. So when you have experiences like that with a medicine, you don’t soon forget that. That’s, that becomes profound for you. And I’ve had a lot of people tell me the same sorts of things where they had something very profound in an emergency situation or in just a general health situation.
They’ve been stuck and that turned the case around for them. You know, whether it’s tumor reduction, whether it’s eyesight, I make eye drops yeah, cataracts are a very big problem, which is a deposit of calcium. Usually calcium bits get stuck in the inflamed tissue. It doesn’t heal properly, which also is a liver issue, but people will get cataract surgery and all this kind of stuff’s totally unnecessary.
Use DMSO between 20 and 40% in saline solution. I explain how to do that in my book. And apply that to both eyes at least once a day. Twice would be ideal. With vitamin C is ideal as well, and it heals cataracts. That’s pretty profound. I mean, this sort of information is life changing and it can be for so many people.
Like you think cataracts going down the traditional allopathic model, I don’t even know what you would do if you had cataracts and you go to a normal doctor. What they prescribe. I’m assuming some suppressant of some sort, but just to know that you can completely reverse that situation with something that is as even cost effective.
Cause DMSO isn’t that much in comparison. It’s just transformational, isn’t it? All the different, there’s so many different things that it can heal and help. I didn’t know about eyedrops either. That’s new to me. Yeah, you can use it in the ears, in the eyes. I’m actually gonna design a nasal spray nasal mist because it’s very healing to the sinuses as well.
And it can be used for dental care. You know, gingivitis, anything going on in the mouth. I make a blend. It’s an 80% DMSO. Mm-hmm. And it has added nutrients in it, like vitamin C and iodine, B vitamins, this sort of thing. And people use it as a spot treatment on a painful tooth abscess, for example.
And that abscess will retreat completely. By that application. So, I mean, again, and you’re in those sorts of situations and you have something like that you can get out of a really emergency spot quite quickly.
Yeah.
And the only thing I don’t recommend, usually unless you really are experiencing know what you’re doing is DMSO and enemas is not really usually advised because it’s sort of a dirty area and you don’t wanna encourage.
Reconstitution of wastes. But if you clean first, if you do colon irrigation first, there are protocols that you can even use it there because obviously DMSO is about driving nutrients in deeper, but you could say the adverse effect of it, it’ll drive toxicity in deeper. Yes.
Right.
So, so you could say if you were to put something toxic on your skin, then add DMSO, it’s gonna potentiate the bad effects.
Whatever you’ve put on so it’s, it does its job whether for good or for bad. Right. But obviously it’s it’s something that’s for good, but you just gotta be aware of not mixing it with certain products or solutions. Yeah. Like I’ve made a mistake one time. I had a, I was playing around with the tin that had gotten a bit rusty and I didn’t wash my hands after, and then I touched DMSO and I could taste the rust in my mouth and I realized that I had absorbed. Which I wouldn’t do again, obviously. So there’s certain things you wanna be aware of. Just using clean skin, not putting clothing back on until at least 20 minutes has passed. So that transdermal effect is complete usually after about 20 minutes.
You can wipe off any excess. So then put your clothes on. I’m not mixing it with other lotions or creams that are questionable, that might have other compounds in them. And it’s funny, you’ll see in the common culture occasionally DMSO will pop up in murder mysteries and stuff, and it’s never good, right?
It’s never like, oh, it saved their life or anything. But there’s an old show of a medical examiner back in the seventies and they, there was actually an episode where the murderer used snake venom, or spider venom mixed with DMSO and put it on the steering wheel of the person who’s trying to kill.
And then once they touched it with their hands, they were poisoned and died by the spider venom.
Oh my goodness. That’s hilarious. So obviously that’s not a true story; it was just a story. I forget the medical examiner’s name, but it’s the name of the show.
Maybe it’s true, like maybe you could do that. I haven’t really, yeah. I’m not gonna play around with that and see what happens, but no, but the idea is to be cautious when you’re using it as blends or when you know, just be generally clean procedure. So you can use DMSO, you can apply it topically.
Hair, Supplements, Medications, Alcohol, and DMSO Combinations
You said you can put it in the eyes, in the ears, you can obviously drink it. It’s basically for everything and anything around the body. What about for like hair loss? Do you apply it to the scalp or area? Where you have hair? Yeah. One of my earlier inventions was a product called Hair Regrowth Spray.
Because I learned that it obviously is gonna bring blood flow to the tissues, which is why sometimes you get redness when you use it. And also I knew that it supported tissue integrity and it also can destabilize the wall around mites. They don’t like it. So it can be sort of like an insecticide.
And we do tend to get a lot of mites in that hair and even from our own body because we have mites that live in our eyelashes, which is really creepy to know. But they’re there all the time and sometimes they get outta control and go into the eyebrows and go into the hair and cause us to itch and cause hair loss.
So I developed that based on horsetail structure and then DMSO and some other ingredients. And yeah, we were getting some really amazing feedback from. Just even their existing hair was becoming better, you know, but they were starting to see baby hairs growing after a couple weeks of use, which was really nice to see.
It’s a bit different for male pattern baldness. You have to actually address the main problem, which is usually a lack of zinc and a hormone insufficiency. Yeah, like a communication problem there. You can at least prevent the rest of the hair from falling out while you address that, which is nice.
And then once you’ve corrected it, the hair can grow back. So yeah, absolutely for that. And could you use DMSO to enhance whatever supplement you were taking? So for example, say if you’re taking, I don’t know, desiccated liver or a zinc or what, whatever is within your supplement stack, could you use DMSO to kind of elevate.
The effectiveness of those supplements. Yep, absolutely. You’re gonna get better absorption and delivery and utilization to the point where when people are taking medications, they need to be cautious when using DMSO because it’ll increase the drug delivery to the tissues.
So usually they have to pay attention to what an overdose looks like for their medication, ensure that if they start using DMSO that they’re reducing their drug amounts, or at least being aware of what to do if they go into a little bit of an overdose by using it. So, yeah. That’s one of its claim to fame is for utilization and delivery of nutrients to the end tissue. Yeah, so obviously I was thinking about supplementation, but you could be on pharmaceutical medication and it will do the same thing.
It will drive in deeper and potentiate its effect. So yeah that’s definitely something that people need to be aware of because it could, if you’re someone that is always on medication and you wanna start using DMSO for other means, you just gotta be careful not to, I’d assume take them at the same time, space it out, cause obviously you don’t wanna have an episode of overdosing or whatever it may.
And the same thing with alcohol use. You must be careful because it actually has a down-regulation of one of the key enzymes in your liver that’s responsible for cleaning out alcohol from your system.
And so, you can get drunk. Or stay drunk longer when you use it which I don’t wanna encourage people cause it sounds actually good, but it’s not good.
But you know, you can have a, you can overdose in your alcohol and not realize it. So you wanna Oh, okay. Keep the two apart as best as possible. Yeah, for sure. What are good combinations with DMSO? Like things that go hand in hand that you can that people may know, people may not know that they can use, whether it’s topically or whatever it may be, that it just works well with.
Well, my favorite is with magnesium, DMSO and magnesium or BFFs for sure, and I make a blend.
It’s a 50% solution.
With magnesium oil, it’s really easy for people to make themselves. They can use either Epsom salts or Magnesium Flakes or nigari magnesium and make a 50% solution of that. and then add another 50% once you’ve manufactured that solution to pure DMSO and shake it well, It’ll get hot because it has an exothermic reaction.
Once it is in, with anything, with any substance, it’s gonna get hot. And so people freak out when they do that, and that’s totally normal. The substance will be fine. It just, it has exothermic power because it’s giving off a lot of bonds. And so magnesium is one of the best because we’re deficient in it.
And we can’t take as much orally or we’ll get loose bowels generally, and we’re using so much just to keep the liver active and all of its different pathways. So topically, you’re mixing the two, and actually people find using magnesium on the skin to be irritating, where it gets itchy and uncomfortable.
So I thought I wonder DMSO does that too, and I wonder if I put them together, is it gonna make that worse or what’s gonna happen? And it actually makes it not happen, which is fascinating. So you don’t really get those same symptoms.
It does leave a little bit of a residue that people sometimes wanna wipe off or really rub it in well.
Well, yeah. But it’s very powerful to mix those two together., but really any basic nutrient it will enhance. I like blending it with vitamin C because it’s also an antioxidant, so they kind of work well together like that.
I like to put it with iodine. I like the iodine carrying capacity.
So if you’re gonna, you know, do a thyroid treatment, for example, that’s a good blend and B vitamins, all the water soluble vitamins for sure, you’re gonna have ease with. And it is soluble with fats and oils also it’s just not as miscible.
So it will carry, but you really have to shake it and to get it to, to take the fat soluble.
I just love how versatile it is. You know, it can be used for so many things, and I’m learning so much today. I mean, I’ve been using it regularly for joints and cuts, as I said, for another year.
But I’m, the eyes had no idea, you know, mixing it with different, like magnesium or whatever, haven’t done that either.
Dilution Ranges, Sensitive Tissues, MMS, and Animal Use
Like, there’s so much stuff. I’m gonna try after this call. I’m like, okay, let’s let’s try some new things. You talked about concentration, so obvious., when you buy DMSO, it comes in. So mine I think was like 99% concentration. So I’m based in the uk. I know in the US. I was chatting to a US citizen. It’s banned or they can’t, you can’t buy it over the counter in the us obviously you’re based in Canada, so I’m guessing different rules there.
You buy it here in 99% concentration, I think, or 90. What’s the reason for changing the concentrations? So I’m guessing you wouldn’t have the same concentration for all things, whether it’s an eye drop or putting on your skin or drinking.
So why do we change that concentration?
It’s a good question because they have different properties depending on how much it’s diluted. And as I said, it has an interesting relationship with water, which changes depending on the concentrations, right. That it’s interacting with. And really you’re looking for which tissues. So any tissue neck and above, generally in ingestion is 50% or less because the tissue is thinner and more fragile.
And then there’s mucus membranes involved and these sorts of things. Same thing with if a woman is douching or you know, she has a UTI and she’s trying to address that. Or if there’s like a colla actually had one woman do very strong DMSO I believe it was 90%. And she soaked organic cotton tampon in it, and she inserted it because she had a, basically a prolapsed uterus.
So she was having, you know, a severe drop in her core and she had amazing healing from that. And not only did it fix the prolapse, but it fixed her menstrual problems as well, which she didn’t really anticipate. So that was her going kind of off book. People will go off book because I wouldn’t have recommended, you know, going 90% for that.
I would’ve said 50% would be the safe zone for a mucus membrane.
But you can get away with some experimentation if you understand the substance, you’ve developed a relationship with it. Usually, you know, 10% is not really therapeutic level.
A lot of people may know about MMS or chlorine dioxide solution.
So that community, if you go into the MMS community, usually a lot of people find out about DMSO because they include it in some of their preparations by helping the MMS have enhanced absorbability and stability when taking it.
So people, it’s a kind of like a open door for that knowledge.
That they only use a 10% for that to enhance absorption. And then 20% eyes, ears, pets, children, that’s like your good testing percentage. You wanna see if you’re sensitive, 30% special. It’s like very anti-inflammatory. So it tends to, so if you have an inflammatory condition, then you might wanna start with 30%, 40% is kind of like your next level Detox for sensitive tissues, eyes, ears, facial skin.
And then 50% is like your, usually your maximum for ingestion, and then 60% is your higher dose level for people with sensitive skin types like redhead or people who don’t have a lot of melanin in their skin. Yeah, you just hover on that and 70% is your general use.
Topical 80% is like a really strong solution that you can add for carrier, like if you wanna add other nutrients.
And then the 90% is what you buy on the shelf. And then if you wanna get the pure stuff, every country has at least one purifying company that will do that. And I think you just can’t say you’re using it for health purposes. So that’s the sort of thing. Yeah. Or you go to the vets. The vets will have the pure 99.995% pharmaceutical-grade DMSO.
My next question was, can you use it for your pets? And obviously it sounds like it’s already sold in pet stores. Is it for general health for animals? Why? Why would they sell it in a pet store?
Well, I haven’t really seen it in pet stores, but I’ve seen it at the vet. Like the vets will know because they’ll use it for different things, and I use it as a solvent.
So the vets especially who do horses, because it’s very well known in the horse racing industry yeah, because you can really get better performance outta your horse when you use it, so. They’re very familiar with the substance. I wish it was in pet stores. I would say I’ve had some really, in pets you get rapid responses because they’re smaller bodied generally.
Yeah.
And also they tend to have less messed with them than they eat their natural diet more than we do. And it’s wonderful to see for lame animals, spinal issues, tumors. Wounds where they get lick, granulomas, this sort of stuff. Ear mites, ear infections, of course, issues with the eyes, which they hate when you do it, but it heals ’em up.
And just if you don’t really wanna add it to their food as they probably won’t eat it. Yeah. But because it’s so rapidly absorbed through the skin, you can just treat a clean patch. Where there’s less fur, maybe on the belly or on the tail or ears or something, and you’ll get delivery into the body and help their pain.
Resources, Self-Care, Nature, and Closing Advice
I mean, just being able to get your pet outta pain is a really big deal for people, and this is an easy way to do it rather than orally. Yeah. Amandha, this has been great, getting really a masterclass on DMSO. And the good news is it’s affordable, it’s cheap. You can buy it online and there’s so much you can do with it. Your book is great.
Healing with DMSO. We’ll put that in the show notes for the listeners. Again, that gives further detail on DMSO and what it’s all about. So where can our listeners best connect with you? Well, I have quite a video archive and blog archive at Yummy.Doctor, spelled D-O-C-T-O-R. That’s the domain, and there’s lots of videos and information on DMSO there too, if they wanna learn more.
If they’re just interested in the book, then healing with DMSO.com is for that. It’s on Amazon, it’s on Barnes and Nobles all over the place. So wherever your local big bookstore chain, they’ll have it. There’s the, if you’re interested in the blends, then that’s DMSO.store for all the designs.
And I also have the YumNaturals store, and that is mainly for the other non-DMSO products that I blend and teas and things. But there is 90% DMSO available there as well. Really, just have a look around online for your local options. See maybe there’s a health food store that actually has it and people don’t even realize.
Yeah. Like I, I didn’t realize that my health food store had it. And then start sharing, you know, they can share the word and tell people about it so they have something available in case of any emergency or know what to do when they’re, they really are in pain, which, you know, so many people are.
So, tons of information they can get from any of those websites. So thank you. Amazing. We’ll put all of those in the show notes for the listeners so they can check those out. So, final question from me: what three pieces of advice would you give our listeners to help them achieve their ideal? Well, for one, really pay attention to what you’re feeling.
I think we’re so overwhelmed in this realm, and we don’t take the time to nurture ourselves and to acknowledge what we’re feeling, and we don’t allow the feeling to go through us and then release it. We just bottle things up a lot. And so for self-care, you know, you wanna give your inner child a big hug by acknowledging your needs and hurts and feelings in a way that’s constructive for you.
Whether it’s dancing, art, whatever your expression is, remember that expression is healing. So if you feel like you wanna stuff it down, think again. You know, think if there’s another way that you can release that. Make sure that you’re really, every day, taking a look at what you’re eating and drinking and consuming, and question whether that is truly serving you or not.
Just as a daily general practice, you know, is this serving me right now? Is this really the best water I could be drinking? Am I drinking water? Am I just drinking alcohol and coffee all day? Where’s my mental health? What are my thoughts in the day? And how can I improve this little by little?
And just get a daily practice where you’re being your own witness to yourself, where you’re being self-reflective, not picky, not judgey. Just being the witness and trying to see where you can improve little things in your life and to not overwhelm you. And I would say the next thing would be just have some sort of communication with nature, however it is for you.
There’s so many ways that you can interact with the natural world. Don’t stay locked up in your flat all day. Don’t stay in front of screens all day. Take yourself out of that situation and refresh your mind and ground your body. Get sunlight on your skin, in your eyes. You know, touch a tree doesn’t even have to be long.
It can be five or 10 minutes out in nature just to breathe and center yourself and get yourself outta stress mode. And if these little habits, they really will build up in your life and give you added value where you look back and you feel proud of yourself for taking care of your own needs and not putting that on other people through expectations.
And if it’s very empowering to do that. That would be my three things. Amazing. Three great final points to finish on. Amandha Vollmer, it’s been amazing to have you on. We’ve had a masterclass in DMSO and thanks again.
