How the Heck to Get Your Child to Eat Fruits & Vegetables? Make Power Packed Smoothy Popsicles!
Smoothie Popsicles for Kids: Video Overview
Getting children to eat more fruits and vegetables can require creativity, especially when they are selective about flavour, texture, or presentation. In this practical demonstration, Amandha Vollmer (ADV) shares how she makes smoothie popsicles for picky eaters using a combination of fruits, vegetables, and additional ingredients from her own kitchen. Drawing on her experience preparing food for her daughter, she explains how a familiar frozen treat can introduce ingredients that a child might otherwise refuse.
Amandha walks viewers through her preparation process, beginning with banana, mango, spinach, avocado, and cherries. She demonstrates how she combines these ingredients in a blender and discusses how sweetness, colour, and consistency influence her daughter’s willingness to try different foods. She also introduces several powders and botanicals she personally uses, including collagen, L-glutamine, nettle, and amla, while explaining her nutritional reasoning for including them.
The demonstration concludes with instructions for blending, filling popsicle molds, and freezing the mixture. Amandha also shares other ways she incorporates fruits and vegetables into her child’s meals, including homemade ice cream, muffins, pancakes, and blended soups. Her approach emphasizes adapting familiar foods to children’s preferences while continuing to introduce a wider variety of ingredients.

Introducing Smoothie Popsicles for Picky Eaters
Amandha: I’m about to make some smoothie popsicles for my daughter because lucky me, I have a food fussy child and what I have to do to get her to eat vegetables and fruit even is quite a task. And I want to show you what I do to get her to willingly and even ask for vegetables.
Blender and Popsicle Molds
Amandha: So one of the things that I do is I have a Magic Bullet or Nutribullet.
Amandha: And I make a full container of smoothie and I’m going to show you what I put in this smoothie. And then I have these really nice popsicle molds here. See, I got these from Ikea. And so they go in the little container like this, if you can see, and they’re very handy and they just pop in the freezer and they wash up pretty easily as well.
Amandha: And they’re just, this one actually needs to be cleaned, but they are really handy to have. I’ve used them a lot and I kind of wish I had a second set, to be honest. Okay. So if you can find something like that. I also got these other popsicle molds that are more flimsy. They’re silicone, they’re not too bad.
Banana, Mango, Spinach, and Avocado
Amandha: They’re really, were hard to get the smoothie out, so I don’t really use them that much. But there’s different kinds on the market that you can find. So, hi Maurice. Hi from Australia. Okay, so what I’ve done in here so far is I have one really sweet banana and I’ve put in one scoop of amino L-glutamine powder because that helps to heal the gut and then the gut brain connection.
Amandha: So this is a growing child. I want to make sure she has enough glutamine. To help her think and digest properly and have good gut integrity for the rest of her life. So start young. And so the one bananas in there, and then I’m going to add some mangoes into it.
Amandha: I have these organic mangoes. It’s from Nature’s Touch.
Amandha: Sorry, I got a notification. There’s this one. I put a bunch in there and I’ve also put in already some organic spinach because she has no clue that I’m putting spinach in this. So I’ve already put that in there. The other thing that she’s going to have no clue that I’ve put in are these frozen avocado chunks.
Amandha: Yeah, she’s not going to know about that either. And actually, what’s nice about it is they make the smoothie smoother and add some definition to the texture, which I really like. I put it in my smoothie too. And if you don’t like avocado, if you’re that, you can use fresh. You can use fresh. I just have frozen from the winter, so I’m going to use it up.
Amandha: But if you want, you can use. Always all fresh ingredients. The thing is, if you use fresh, that’s fine. It’ll just take longer to freeze, I find. And the, and it’s different consistency. So all it also depends on your child and how they like their consistency. Cause I find that the most with fussy kids is the consistency, the texture.
Cherries, Sweetness, and Texture
Amandha: I also have some sweet cherries cause I want to sweet it up for her because she won’t probably eat it if it’s just funky looking green color and not pink and not sweet. So I’ll put some cherries in there and fill it up pretty good. And then I’m going to show you the powders and things I put inside of that as well.
Amandha: Okay, so that goes back in the freezer. Hello, this is my freezer and basically full of frozen vegetables and fruits, if you can see there. Okay. And one frozen banana, by the way. Frozen banana is awesome because you can put it under hot water and they’ll get the peel off and then you can make that in the food processor and that’s like an ice cream.
Amandha: So that’s another way I get her to eat. I make it into popsicles or ice cream. It’s all about the presentation. Okay, so then I have for put in the L-glutamine already and I have a collagen powder. This one is bulletproof. I know it’s probably backwards cause I have the frame flipped around oh, the intro is how the heck to get my child to eat vegetables in a creative way.
Amandha: And how the heck I do that is I make her popsicles. So these are the popsicle molds, and I’m going to make smoothie, and I’m showing you what I’m putting in the smoothie to actually functionally make it. And you can eat it too. I mean, you can make it a smoothie and then just drink it. Or if you’re really into popsicles, go for it.
Collagen, Nettle, Amla, and Other Powders
Amandha: So I put about a, a heaping tablespoon of collagen in. She does have a bit of meat, so it’s not like she’s totally vegan or anything, but it does help with the cellular integrity and I have, so what I have here is I have my, a basket of powders and things that I use frequently and I use a lot for myself where I use a lot for other people.
Amandha: My child.
Amandha: So I’m not going to really put in Siberian Ginseng into hers cause she doesn’t really need more energy and amla powder.
Amandha: Sometimes I put in because amla helps with the immune system, essentially. nettle leaf I like to put in. So let’s give her some nettle leaf. One second.
Amandha: I thought someone was here. So I have my store open and I’m like, oh shit, someone here,. Okay, so about maybe like a heaping teaspoon of. Nettle leaf in there, hair in that. Okay, good old nettle. Nettle has a lot of natural vitamin C, but it’s also anti-inflammatory. It’s very healing to the body and in general support the liver.
Amandha: Should we give her amla or should we give her alus? Let’s give her, or moringa. Moringa is another one I really like. moringa leaf is really high in zinc, so I like to get the zinc that way. But I think we’ll give her a little bit of amla, which is. It’s a type of berry from India. Well, it’s Indian and it’s very nutritious, so I really am trying to just concentrate my nutrition.
Amandha: So she’s licking a popsicle, think she’s getting a popsicle, and really she’s getting all this stuff packed into it. And the thing is, she’ll probably eat most of these in one day, which is, so she’s getting all of that in one. That’s quite a bit of fruits, quite a bit of nutrition. And you know, I feel like I’m not the worst parent in the world because I actually got something good into my child.
Choosing Juice or Plant-Based Milk
Amandha: Right. Okay. And then, so you know what, I’m out of my milks today. I have to go shopping. So sometimes I use actually smoothie juice. The other thing I buy, this is a good one, this is oasis. Here, and it has to actually has vegetables in it with the fruits. So I think what I’m going to do is I normally do put either an almond milk, like half almond milk or hemp milk or coconut milk in there with it.
Amandha: But I’m out of it right now. So I’m going to do old juices, which you’ll love because it’ll be extra sweet. So I’m going to fill, I’m going to do half of this one with the Oasis fruit and veggie blend. and then I’m going to do, I have this other Oasis juice that’s got the tropical mango. She loves mango. I already put mangoes in it as a fruit and I fill it up pretty good.
Amandha: So, I like to go to town on that. And nettle, like, why I give nettles or why I give these plants for kids is because they’re really mineral rich. So most of our nutritional plants they’re full of minerals, they’re full of vitality from the earth. And so you’re going to get concentrated nutrition.
Amandha: From that in all forms. So you’re going to get a whole host of your vitamins and minerals like across the board, because I don’t want to miss anything in her diet, and that’s why I like to do that. So yeah. popsicles packed with power. Exactly. So I’ve gotten this all together. Now the only thing is I’ve made a bit of a booboo here.
Blending and Filling the Popsicle Molds
Amandha: You can see the bottom. Because what I should have done is I put the banana in, then I put in some of the juice, and then I start the powders. Cause if you put the powders in too soon they’ll kind of stick to the bottom and you’ll lose some of them.
Amandha: So now I’m going to make a big annoying noise.
Amandha: So that’s done. The color’s actually she might like this color because lately she says her favorite color is purple. So I guess this is as close to purple as we can get. So I’ll call them purple popsicles. And then I’ll show you a little trick how I get them to pour into the mold. So it’s going to be more, there’s going to be more of the leftover as well in this, the rules already one set.
Amandha: And so what I’m going to do is I’m going to get some of the other popsicle molds out and put that in there too. So I’ll have double popsicles. The other popsicles I was mentioning, the silicone ones, when you are pouring, this is how I do a lot of my magic with a lot of my creams and stuff when I’m pouring them, is if you put something together with it, it’ll follow the line of the stick or whatever.
Amandha: You’ve got to get it into the mold. Okay. So you can see that I think, right. So instead of just pour, if I pour it like that, it’s going to gloop all over, but if I pour it against something thin, it will actually go with the line of what I’m doing and you can get it in without making a huge mess like that.
Amandha: Okay. See what I’m doing? And then those now Okay, we’re back. My signal got weirded out. It’s been windy. So what I’m doing is I’m just filling up each and every one of them and I’m putting the stick in the top like this.
Amandha: And tastes really good. She’s going to love them. And then I’m going to put this last couple in here, and then I’m going to get the.
Freezing and Preparing Regular Batches
Amandha: So probably like three hours or so. This should be done sometimes longer depending on your freezer. And that’s it. I mean, this is just getting a pattern of making like a fresh. Batch of them every couple of days, you know? And just say, Hey honey, would you like a popsicle? Hey, if you finish your homework, you can have a popsicle,, sucka
Amandha: You don’t even know. And I’m not going to tell you till you’re 25 that I fed you avocado in your smoothies sucker. So then there we go. Last one in. So see that trick? How it works really neat. That one’s a little overfull pop it into the freezer and get it started.
Amandha: So really easy I tell people about this trick all the time, and for some reason parents don’t know this one, so just wanted to make sure that I spilled there.
Other Ways to Serve Fruit and Vegetables
Amandha: But I just want to make sure that everybody knows that this is something really easy that. You know, I use muffins, pancakes smoothies and pretend ice cream all the time to get in powders to get in vegetables that don’t want to be seen. I use a lot of soups that are smoothed through blended or blended soups even as bases to other things cause a kid can’t eat noodles all day, because I think if this were a world run by small children between the ages of three and seven, they would just eat noodles and chocolate and eat candy and drink pop. I think that’s probably what they think health is and yeah and cereal. So and, Hey, I raised my kid on avocados and vegetables and fruits and it still happened.
Amandha: So it’s like wired into them or something that they don’t want to eat anything healthy, which is, I don’t know if we’re like self-destructive humanities, just self-destructive by nature or what it is. But at least she knows that she has to get some fruits and vegetables in her life. So at least if I can do it this way, it’s a little bit easier.
More Flavour Ideas and Closing Tips
Amandha: Anyway, I want to just do a quick video and show you how I make those. And there’s tons of other powders you could use. You could put sp I have spirulina in the freezer. You can put spirulina chlorella in there. You can use like any type of super food. I used to have a goji berry powder that I like to put in goji berry powder.
Amandha: You can make chocolate ones. You can put cacao nibs in there. Cacao powder. Yeah. The sky’s the limit on your flavors and your, and the things you can add in. You can even do little bits of carrot if you want to sort of shred those in or, you know, put little pieces in they don’t really notice.
Amandha: All they think is they’re getting a treat. Okay, so there, I want to share that with you and,. Hope you have a fine day trying to get all your servings and fruits and vegetables in your life., no meat popsicles. Okay. No, not necessary well, I guess the collagens, kind of like bone broth.
Amandha: You could make bone broth. popsicles if you really want. If you’re really into that, go for it anyway. Best of luck with your children and convincing them to eat salad cause I still haven’t been able to convince my daughter to eat salad. I have to pretend that we have to play a game where she’s a bunny and I pick fresh salad and she eats the leaves.
Amandha: And that’s about as far as we can go with that. So, you know, if you have any other tips about getting them to eat salad, let me know. Because basically I just shove it in a smoothie. So anyway so thanks. Have a great weekend and we’ll talk again soon. Okay. Bye.
